Researching colour schemes

As I know that my student front cover will be aimed at an all girls school, finding a colour scheme to fit that audience is slightly easier.
I have picked a fashion magazine called 'Bazaar' which is also aimed at girls to show some possible colour schemes that would be appropriate for my front cover.

  1. Pink Black White. I know that pink is a colour that is very much associated with girls, and would be appropriate for a girls magazine, but personally, I think it's a little too over the top. The bright pink would also only attract the 'girly girl' and I want my magazine to be for ALL girls.
  2. Turquoise Blue White. I find this the most appealing colour scheme as not only is it gentle on the eye, it would also be appropriate for 'tomboys' as well as 'girly girls'. Although blue is a unisex colour, the turquoise gives it a more feminine feel and succeeds in making it slightly more aimed at girls.
  3. Red Black White. These colours all compliment each other extremely well, but I don't think they can be aimed at girls only - a magazine front cover aimed at males could just as easily have a red, black and white colour scheme and still be appropriate. Therefore, it makes it a less effective colour scheme for a girls only magazine.
